Melioidosis is a multifaceted disease caused by the Gram-negative bacterial pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei and is associated with a high mortality rate. Melioidosis is endemic in the tropics of Southeast Asia and is a worldwide concern as it is a potential agent of bioterrorism or biological warfare. The lacks of a fully effective antibiotic regime as cases of bacteremia have highly mortality rates and relapse of melioidosis is common.
